David W. Poe 

Landscape Artist

I am a landscape artist who lives in Union, Missouri. I am also an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and have served congregations in Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. I currently serve as the Senior Pastor of St. Martin UCC, High Ridge, Missouri. I consider myself a lifelong learner and love the challenge of creating expressive landscape paintings that are full of energy and passion.

I was raised in Bellevue, Kentucky and attended Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois where I earned a B.A. in English, Religion & Philosophy. I also hold a Masters of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana.

I enjoy painting in Plein Air (outdoors) as well as in my home studio. I work in traditional oils using a limited palette of colors and enjoy using palette knives as well as brushes. I participate in the annual August Plein Air Festival held in Augusta, Missouri. Some of my paintings are on display at The Room for Art Gallery in Washington, Missouri and Artworks on Main Gallery in Owensville, Missouri. I have also participated in shows at the Gallery at the Library, Hermann, Missouri and via the Mid-Missouri Fine Arts Society. I’ve won awards at Plein Air competitions and other art festivals and contests. 

My inspiration for painting comes primarily from my local surroundings in Mid-Missouri along with the places where I have traveled. Currently, my equipment consists of a Coulter Easel, archival canvas panels, Robert Simmons Signet brushes (all flats), Daler-Rowney Georgian oil paints, Windsor & Newton Liquin, Gamsol, Gamvar Gloss Varnish, and a variety of palette knives.

Handmade items like oil paintings make wonderful gifts for friends, family members, and yourself. Such items can become family heirlooms that you’ll want to pass down to others and their value only increases with age. I do not sell prints, so each painting is unique and one of a kind.
